We spend a lot of time waiting for, looking for, or just hoping to stumble across our next bigger “opportunity.” But what does opportunity look like? Will we even recognize it should it appear?
In “Think and Grow Rich,” author Napoleon Hill says:
“That is one of the tricks of opportunity. It has a sly habit of slipping in by the back door, and often it comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat. Perhaps this is why so many fail to recognize opportunity.”
I’ve written several blogs about the importance of creating change in our belief system, and this is one of the main reasons why. The longer we allow ourselves to be overcome by defeat – the more opportunities we miss. As the old saying goes, “we miss the forest for the trees.”
Are you in a position to truly recognize an opportunity should it present itself today? Think of the last major defeat or setback you experienced…is there an opportunity there that you may have missed? We must realize that opportunity may not always appear in the way we “expect” it to, and understand that it could show up in the form of a defeat or setback. The most important takeaway from this, though, is no matter how opportunity presents itself – if we’re always looking for it, and ready to to seize it once it appears – it will ALWAYS happen!
