Time IS running out.

“Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out.”
-Oliver Wendell Holmes

I remember attending a seminar where one of my mentors was speaking and he asked the audience if we could name the richest place on Earth. A few brave souls offered answers like “the oil fields of Saudi Arabia” or “the great pyramids of Egypt” and I remember someone else guessing “the library.” With each guess, I could tell we were all missing the point the of the question. One person suggested the human mind, and he got a “very close” from the speaker. I’ll never forget the answer to the question.

“The richest place on Earth,” he explained, “is the cemetery. For in that cemetery lie songs that were never sung, books that were never written, ideas that acted upon, inventions that were never created, dreams that were never experienced, and potentials that were never realized.”

“The richest place on Earth is the cemetery.” -Les Brown

We’ve all been told “you can’t take it with you when you leave” and “you’ve never seen a hearse with a trailer hitch” but, in reality, the opposite is true. Everything dies with you. Everything the world is looking for from you, and only you, goes with you when you leave.

As Oliver Wendell Holmes said “many people die with their music still in them” because they’ve spent too much time “getting ready.”

You’ve got something within you that the world needs to hear, see, feel, know, experience, realize, and understand…and the longer you take to “get ready” the more and more likely it’ll never get to.

“Faith is taking that first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King

The world is a better place with you in it because of everything you bring to it…but that requires action on your part. Let the world hear your music.

As my mentor Les Brown will tell you, “Live full. Die empty.”
